Where to buy and trade

Exchanges (spot and futures), P2P platforms, atomic swaps and instant exchangers — with caveats

In short

Large regulated exchanges are dropping Monero en masse (Binance spot in 2024, Kraken in the EEA and several countries). Spot is still available on Kraken (not everywhere), KuCoin, HTX, Bitfinex, MEXC; XMR futures on Binance, Bybit, Bitget, Gate, Kraken Pro, Hyperliquid. Without KYC: P2P (Haveno/RetoSwap, Bisq), atomic swaps (eigenwallet) and instant exchangers.

Not financial advice, not an advertisement

This list is compiled from public data as of November 2026 and goes stale quickly: exchanges change listings and country restrictions. Before using any of them, check the market page on the exchange itself and the rules in your jurisdiction. This site has no affiliation with any of the services listed.

Why exchanges are leaving Monero

Regulators require exchanges to trace the origin of funds ("travel rule", AML). Monero's blockchain doesn't allow that, so for many regulated platforms delisting is easier. A timeline of major delistings:

WhenExchangeWhat happened
2018–2020Coincheck, Upbit, BithumbDelisted in Japan and Korea
2021Bittrex; Kraken (UK)Delisted
2022Huobi (HTX)Delisted (relisted later)
Dec 2023 – Jan 2024OKXFutures, then spot
Feb 2024BinanceSpot trading ended
2024Kraken (EEA)Unavailable to European Economic Area clients
2025Kraken (Canada); TradeOgreKraken delisted in Canada; TradeOgre went offline and was seized by Canadian police

Centralised exchanges: spot

ExchangePairsCaveats
KrakenXMR/USD, XMR/EUR, XMR/BTCUnavailable in the EEA, UK, Canada, Australia and some other countries
KuCoinXMR/USDT, XMR/BTCNo EU licence; deposits/withdrawals sometimes paused for maintenance
HTXXMR/USDTRelisted after its 2022 delisting
BitfinexXMR/USD, XMR/USDT, XMR/BTCKYC required for most operations
MEXCXMR/USDT, XMR/USDC—
PoloniexXMR/USDTAt the time of checking, XMR withdrawals were disabled — check before depositing

Holding on spot. Technically you can keep XMR on any exchange above, but it defeats the point of Monero: the exchange sees your deposits and withdrawals, can freeze funds or suddenly delist (usually with a withdrawal window — watch your email). If you do, keep on the exchange only what you're trading.

Futures and perpetuals

XMR derivatives are price contracts without delivery: you can't withdraw "futures XMR" to a wallet. That's why even exchanges that removed spot keep them.

VenueType
Binance FuturesXMRUSDT perpetual (no spot)
BybitXMRUSDT perpetual (no spot)
BitgetXMRUSDT perpetual
Gatefutures (resumed after the 2024 delisting)
Kraken ProXMR perpetuals (USD/USDT/USDC), availability by country
KuCoin FuturesXMRUSDTM perpetual
HyperliquidXMR/USDC perpetual (on-chain, HIP-3)
Risk

Leverage on a volatile asset with relatively thin liquidity is a fast way to lose your deposit. Futures prices can diverge from spot; cascading liquidations are common.

No middleman: P2P and atomic swaps

ServiceHow it worksPros / cons
Haveno (the RetoSwap network)A decentralised P2P exchange (Bisq fork) on Monero and Tor; trades secured by a multisig deposit in XMR+ no KYC, fiat and crypto; − you wait for a counterparty, security deposit
BisqA P2P exchange, XMR traded against BTC+ long-running; − BTC only
eigenwallet (formerly UnstoppableSwap)BTC → XMR atomic swap: the swap either completes fully or the money is refunded+ no trust in an intermediary; − BTC↔XMR only, waiting for confirmations
BasicSwapA self-hosted atomic-swap DEX for several coins+ no intermediary; − harder to set up, less liquidity

Instant exchangers

"Send coin A, get XMR" services, usually without registration: the Trocador aggregator, ChangeNOW, FixedFloat, Exolix, and the swaps built into Cake Wallet and Stack Wallet.

  • + fast, no account;
  • − the exchanger sees both sides of the swap and your IP; some hold "suspicious" swaps and ask for KYC; the rate is worse than on an exchange.
